The Stamps

This is the first time that the Post Office has issued a set of stamps incorporating in their design other earlier stamps.


The 5d stamp carries a reproduction of the "Penny Black", the world first adhesive postage stamp, issued on 6 May 1840. 

The 9d stamp shows the 1 s green, the first embossed stamp which was issued on 13 September 1847. 

The Is 6d stamp shows the 4d carmine, issued on 31 July 1855 the first British postage stamp to be produced by surface printing
